About Sally

Christchurch-based voice teacher, singer, and performer with over 30 years of professional experience.

My strength lies in being a seasoned performer coupled with a wealth of voice training and knowledge

About me - Over my performance career, I’ve performed to large and varied audiences, delivered lines under the microscope of television and film directors, managed live media interviews, and withstood the scrutiny of critics. I know the pressure and the fear involved, and what it takes to overcome these challenges.

I'm an actor, singer-songwriter, voice-over artist, and multi-disciplinary performer (a fancy word for mixing art forms). I started out training in theatre and quickly found my love of all things ‘voice’. I’ve always made music and studied voice alongside my acting career in theatre and screen, and I’ve relished my international study in physical and choreographic theatre, voice, acting, and clown. With over a decade of professional voice-over experience voicing campaigns for leading TV brands and narrating for Radio New Zealand, I bring both technical skill and industry insight into my teaching.

I’ve taught at many of New Zealand’s top academic and performance institutions - University of Auckland , Unitec, The Actors’ Program (TAP), University of Canterbury, and Mixit (migrant youth programme) - alongside extensive community work and directing my own world choir. Alongside creating devised theatre shows, I’ve directed two theatre works and coach performers in preparing auditions and performances.

My teaching covers singing, voice, and public speaking - tailored to individual needs. I offer:

  • One-on-one sessions (from my home studio)

  • Group workshops

  • Online lessons

  • Performance coaching for professionals and productions seeking to fully embody creative vision and reach their highest performance potential

About my training and approach - I trained at Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School (Diploma in Professional Drama / Acting) and have furthered my vocal studies internationally. I’ve trained with the Pantheatre Company (France; Pantheatre Performance Diploma), the Roy Hart International Centre, completed SLS (Speech Level Singing) training, studied semi-classical Indian singing for three years, and music theory at Auckland University. While living abroad I received an acting scholarship with the Royal National Theatre Studio in London, and also studied clown with Philippe Gaulier. My acting work has been nominated and awarded at the Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards and the Broadcasting Council Awards.

I’m passionate about the interconnectedness of personal experience and how it reflects in the voice, breath, and body — and the potential this holds for releasing old patterns and learning new ones. I aim to guide students and clients toward an embodied, authentic, and technically healthy voice, helping them discover their true vocal potential.
